Actors, musicians, and other celebrities know what it is like to gain fans and followers as careers take off. However, it can be easy to forget that the celebrities we adore and love deal with a lot of the same stuff as the average person. Shawn Stockman is famous for his musical talents he brought to Boyz II Men and charismatic personality, but some people may not know as much about the star’s personal life. Find out how it all began for Stockman and who the musician is married to.

A look back at Shawn Stockman’s journey to fame

Stockman, a Philadelphia native, was born in September of 1972, according to IMDb. Stockman’s love for the arts began at a young age. When Stockman was a teenager he attended The Philadelphia High School For Creative and Performing Arts. It was at this school that Stockman began to pursue his R&B dreams and where it all began for Boyz II Men. The school that is commonly known as CAPA has been known to honor the star, and they aren’t alone. In 2017 the city renamed a portion of the infamous Broad Street as “Boyz II Men Boulevard,” as reported by the Philadelphia Tribune. Though Stockman would eventually go on to find his own record label, work as a solo artist, and dabble in the acting scene, nothing compares to Stockman’s success and reputation as to his times as a member of the famous R&B group

Shawn Stockman’s time in Boyz II Men

It is hard to believe that Stockman was only in high school when the famous R&B first formed in 1988. Nathan Morris and Wanya Morris were the accompanying members. The talented group caught their first big break when they met Michael Bivins, according to Britannica. Bivins was a member of New Edition, a famous R&B group that Stockman and his friends often listened to. Ironically enough, a song from New Edition was the inspiration behind the name of Boyz II Men. The exciting encounter led to big things for Boyz II Men, and their first album, Cooleyhighharmony, was released in 1991.

It didn’t take long for the group to take off. “4 Seasons of Loneliness” and “I’ll Make Love To You” are two of the R&B groups’ biggest hits. Just a few years later Boyz II Men was releasing songs with famous musicians like Mariah Carey.

A closer look at Shawn Stockman’s personal life

Stockman met his wife Sharonda Jones in 1993. In 2001, the pair officially tied the knot. Just a few years later, in 2003, the couple gave birth to twins, Ty and Micah. As the twins began to get older, Stockman and his wife noticed a change in Micah. When they brought it to the attention of their doctors it led to Micah’s diagnosis of autism. Stockman has always been very candid about the learning curve he was up against as a result of society and a lack of accessible resources and knowledge. As a result, Stockman and his wife wanted to take action and started their own nonprofit called Micah’s Voice. According to Everday Health, Stockman explained, “Let’s give people a blueprint of all the things they need to do based on the mistakes we made. Let’s put it on the site. Let’s give them the information so they don’t have to walk through the same mess we had to walk through.”

Stockman’s relationship with his wife definitely seems like a strong one. After all, they also were able to work through Stockman’s infidelity issues when he cheated on his wife back in 2016, according to Essence. Though Stockman received a lot of criticism over his public apology, the couple managed to work it out and are still together.
