A man has drowned while scuba diving in the waters off a popular pier.
The man, who has yet to be identified, was found by other divers who pulled him ashore near Rye Pier on Melbourne's Mornington Peninsula at 10am on Saturday.
Other divers attempted to perform CPR on the man but emergency services arrived shortly thereafter and confirmed that he had died.
Police are investigating the circumstances around his drowning and will prepare a report for the coroner.

Earlier in the day another man drowned when his boat capsized after it was hit by a large wave at Barwon Heads, about 20km south-east of Geelong, around 6.50am.
There were two men on the boat, one who was trapped underneath and subsequently drown and another who was saved by someone on a jet ski.
The 61-year-old Moriac man was taken to hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
A 66-year-old Anglesea man was pulled from the water by police and pronounced dead at the scene.
Senior Constable Kevin Hoare told the Herald Sun that the Anglesea man may have been tangled in the anchor rope.
'The surviving fisherman wasn't able to save him,' he said.
